What are the requirements for my Illinois CCL?

Section 25 of the statute provides that the ISP shall issue a CCL provided the applicant:

  1. is at least 21 years of age;
  2. has a currently valid F.O.I.D. and continues to meet those requirements;
  3. has not been convicted of: A) a misdemeanor involving the use or threat of force within 5 years preceding the application, or B) 2 or more violations or DUI or other drugs within 5 years preceding the application;
  4. is not the subject of a pending arrest warrant, prosecution or proceeding for an offense that could lead to disqualification for F.O.I.D.;
  5. has not been in residential treatment for drugs or alcohol for 5 years preceding the application;
  6. has completed the application including the information required in Section 30 of the Act.
  7. has a full set of official digital fingerprints
  8. has a head and shoulders photograph per ISP standards
  9. has a  copy of the certificates or other evidence of compliance with the following training from an ISP approved course:
    • at least 16 hours which includes:
      • firearm safety (minimum 2 hours classroom)
      • basic principles of marksmanship (minimum 3 hours classroom/range)
      • care, cleaning, loading, unloading of a concealable firearm (minimum 3 hours classroom)
      • all applicable state and federal laws relating to ownership, storage, carry, and transportation of a firearm, including appropriate interaction with law enforcement while transporting or carrying (minimum 4 hours classroom)
      • weapons handling, including shooting qualification (minimum 4 hours range) of at least 70% on an approved B27 silhouette, from concealment, for the following course of fire
        • 10 shots at 5 yards
        • 10 shots at 7 yards
        • 10 shots at 10 yards
